I love ancient books that crack when you open them, pages yellowed with age, beautiful spines with gold foil-stamped lettering, the scent of large libraries with velvety green walls, and the feel of a cool, plush, leather chair that’s nestled in a quiet corner where I can breathe in the thoughts of the people before me, the whispers of fellow book lovers soft in my ears. I love books, and I love book people.
Hi. My name is April.
I am a native of Colorado and continue to live here with my husband and four growing children. I love to read historical fiction, memoirs, and sci-fi fantasy—stories that inspire change and growth, or simply, the wisdom learned from life.
Literature has always been a part of my life. Angela’s Ashes (Frank McCourt), Under the Golden Sun (Jenny Ashcroft), and The Things They Carried (Tim O’Brien) are a few books that have left me speechless, giddy, or hugging my pillow in tears. The author’s voice is so essential in making a piece of work into something impactful, relatable, and treasured, and it is my responsibility, the editor’s, to enhance and retain that voice, allowing some rules to be bent or broken while maintaining clarity and cohesion.
I earned an English degree from Colorado State University, and then later, a certificate of copyediting from UC San Diego Extended Studies.
My aim is to support and aid authors in reaching their goal of publication, in bringing their stories to readers, and in sharing their unique voice and experiences with us all.
I look forward to walking with you on this journey to help you polish your work and make it shine bright!
